I recently had a “My baby is growing up!” moment. Funny how those moments tend to come out of nowhere.
We made her valentine box for school. Sure, it’s only for preschool, but something about this project made her seem so much older to me.
I think it’s because I remember making so many of these with my parents. I don’t remember a lot about the boxes, just the act of putting them together (although there was one foil-covered masterpiece that sticks out in my mind). I guess that just goes to prove it’s the together time that counts, not what you end up making.
The fact that I can remember doing it, and now I’m doing it for her, makes it seem like it’s a huge milestone.
Or maybe it’s just that this is our first ever school project.
Anyway, my girls and I hit Hobby Lobby looking for the things we needed and then Katie and I set to work on this Monster of a Valentine’s box. It really is a monster!
This project was, of course, inspired by a few monster boxes I saw on Pinterest, but this is all Katie’s creation!
I wrapped the box and made the antennas, but she did everything else. It was a little hard for my OCD self to turn over the scissors. I know, though, that it’s important for her development – and self-esteem – that I let her handle these things as much as she can.
I’m proud to say, it turned out pretty well for a three-year-old’s project!
